Each work I make brings me into rapture: which way will the work go? In the structure of this work I feel expressionism. Then it moves into realism and I arrive in cubism applied in a Baroque fashion. I am crossing art movements, I touch everything and yet my style remains unscathed. That fascinates me enormously.
The relaxed pose of the woman on the sofa is interrupted by her left arm, the hand of which rests on her thigh. The arm is somewhat out of proportion and the hand is exaggerated in form, which gives a special inner tension and beauty. Her stomach, shown in an intense white, gives the painting its inner serenity. The movement of the planes of her clothing follow the changes to the body which take place during the pregnancy. Everything in her environment mirrors these changes from her point of view.
In the person behind the sofa, the left arm is vulnerable in feeling thanks to the fabric that I have made physical. The fabric rubs tangibly before my eyes like the image of a kaleidoscope.
In the female monkey, I feel the strength of the bones and the muscles. You could call it an hormonal muscle strength, she is ready to mate and I find her a beauty in the purest sense of the word.
The sofa, intense in colour and rendered as flat, appears anything but flat. The hard line of the colour red makes the sofa feel as soft as satin, which is strengthened by the way in which the hands and feet of the monkey are positioned and the softness and warmth that I have imparted here.
