Orphans, or abandoned children, were a recurring subject in paintings, photographs, music and literature in the period between 1850 and 1900.
I was preparing an assignment when I heard the song “Nobody’s child”, written by
Cy Coben & Mel Foree.
This image just sprang into my mind and I dropped all my other work to start this piece.
This subject has often been portrayed in a dramatical, gripping way in paintings.
I wanted to create value without drama in this piece.
